Walekumassalam! Unfortunately oranges do not grow in Karachi.. But a lot of others do!
I have grapefruit, pomelo, three types of lemons, "narangi" and "kingri malta" all doing wonderfully here!

Dont grow citrus or any fruit from seeds... they will germinate and grow but may not give you fruit or if they do the quality will be inferior..

Again I do not agree with you, they will take a long time to fruit, the root system may not be strong, the quality of fruit may be inferior, same or rarely even better.Izhar wrote:Dont grow citrus or any fruit from seeds... they will germinate and grow but may not give you fruit or if they do the quality will be inferior..

Sir, for an open-pollinated or heirloom variety you are right but for the cultivated named varieties it is a chance... out of several plants grown most of them will revert to their wild form.. if the seed grown fruits were of good quality then no one would have spent money on comparatively expensive grafted plants or F1 seeds..

Izhar, It is an interesting topic,
Every new variety of any plant has been developed from SEED.
Pakistan has more and better varieties of MANGO than India, the reason, our base was seedling plantations and later grafting of the best seedlings.
When I sow 1000 Amaryllis seedlings only one or two will make me proud of the effort. This is the task of research institutes. Common man like us has no time for such experiments so we are forced to select and buy from already established varieties.
